I Fenomeni – New LP from Italian Psych Cult Band, Now as Fenomeni Atmosferici

Active since 2010, I Fenomeni have long been devoted to exploring the rich but often overlooked spectrum of Italian sounds from the mid-to-late 1960s. Drawing inspiration from cult groups like Le Ombre D’Oro, Black Angels, Uh!, The Phantom’s, New Trolls, and Pooh, the band has carved out a distinctive voice within the neo-psych scene.

Over the years, I Fenomeni have developed an original songwriting approach that mirrors the evolution of Italy’s early psychedelic bands, gradually moving into more experimental and proto-prog territory with each release.

Their latest album marks a new chapter, both musically and conceptually. In an effort to capture the communal and exploratory spirit of late ’60s and early ’70s Italian underground music, the band has adopted a new collective identity: Fenomeni Atmosferici. This flexible lineup features a solid core of permanent members, joined by a rotating cast of semi-permanent collaborators who contribute both on record and in live performances.

Out now on the legendary Psych Out Records, the third and most ambitious LP to date reflects the group’s deep reverence for key figures of the Italian progressive and psych-folk scene—think early Rocchi, Sorrenti, and Barbaja—while also branching into more eclectic influences, including the tribal-folk mysticism of Aktuala and a clear affection for European psych-folk, particularly the Dutch freak-psych sound (with Boudewijn De Groot as a notable touchstone).

With this release, Fenomeni Atmosferici invite listeners into a richly textured world of vintage echoes, collective experimentation, and timeless psychedelia.
