The Basements return with \u201cSounds Of Yesterday\u201d, an astoundingly impressive LP, inspired by the folk garage and \u201cmoody\u201d sounds of 1966 with a right injection of vintage psych sounds (before hippies ruined everything!). The band in their 3rd LP reveal a maturity in their songs and an unprecedented understanding of the real garage sound of the 60\u2019s that very few bands have achieved in the last decades. We at Lost In Tyme headquarters really believe that this is their master work (shall we say MASTERPIECE?). <\/p>\n
Walls of jangly 12-string guitars, those sweet farfisa sounds and reverb drenched vocals in tracks such as \u201cMary Ann\u201d (their hit!), \u201cDreams\u201d and \u201cEverything Is Wrong\u201d, the sound of teen angst and adolescent frustration in tracks like \u201cMorning\u201d, \u201cI\u2019m For My Own\u201d and \u201cTime Will Do The Rest\u201d, while in tracks such as \u201cChildren Of Tomorrow\u201d, \u201cShe Was Mine\u201d and \u201cRainy Days\u201d the band shows that the psych punk sounds of bands like The Human Expression are alive and well today. Of course, the band doesn\u2019t forget the fuzz\u2019n\u2019screams in wyld \u201866 punk tracks such as \u201cSounds Of Yesterday\u201d and \u201cWay Back\u201d. <\/p>\n
Actually, there are so many AMAZING songs here that it\u2019s so difficult for us to choose some of the 14 tracks of their LP to write this press release! Remember all those LPs recorded by bands playing in basements in the mid 60\u2019s (Bachs, All Of Thus, Summer Sounds) and you might get an idea. Even their choice of covers (The Mystic \u201cI Get So Disgusted\u201d and The Wild Cherries \u201cI Cried Once\u201d) reveals their eclectic taste and their astonishing ability to master the real sounds of 60\u2019s teen garage. <\/p>\n
The remarkable thing with The Basements is that although they have achieved with such great skill to resurrect the sounds of yesterday, they sound so fresh and relevant today. <\/p>\n
