For their 25th anniversary Salerno-based outfi t Tony Borlotti e I Suoi Flauers have chosen to reissue this gem and throw in a few extra tracks to boot. One can see why – the album is jam-packed with fl uid Italian neo-beat tunes and instrumentals.Featuring swirling Vox organ and fuzzed-up guitar the band morphs from evoking a continental take on ? And The Mysterians through Brian Auger keyboard wizardry to a form of Napolitan Sir Douglas Quintet on the gentle ‘Battuti E Beati’. From the toe-tapping ‘Twist And Shout’ styled simplicity of ‘La Cartolina’ to the groovy, infectious brass section beat of ‘Lambretta’, the attention to detail, musicianship and soaring backing vocals are superb. Alors que sonne le 25ème anniversaire de ce groupe, leur dernier album en date sorti en vinyle en 2019 et déjà épuisé « Belinda contro I mangiadischi » est présenté dans une belle édition ‘Deluxe’ en digipack additionné de 4 titres supplémentaires !

\n2 venant de leur EP de 2016 « Battuti e Beati » (sur Area Pirata Rds, bien sûr) et deux sont de nouvelles compositions : « Soli nella cità » et « Falso giovane » (qui fait d’ailleurs l’objet d’un bien beau clip).
\n
\nCet album des vétérans du Beat italiens (qu’on à pu entendre dans le passé sur Teen Sound Rds) sort sur Area Pirata qui désormais abrite leur travail.
\n
\nLe quintet (2 guitares et un organiste) joue un Rhythm & Beat 60’s qui tire parfois vers la Surf (si si), le psyché, le Garage, le Rock’n’Roll d’obédience 50’s voir la musique de film.
\n
\nContrairement à ce qui est habituel dans ce style leur chanteur (guitariste) n’a pas une de ces grandes voix chaude et puissante, et Tony Borlotti et ses boys arrivent à en faire un atout primordial dans leur musique. En donnant une grande place aux parties instrumentales dans les chansons, et aux instrumentaux sur leurs disques. Et également en étant obligé de moduler sa voix, de la poser (en faisant limite du talk-over parfois) leurs titres gagnent en diversité de moods, de rythmes et de rythmique, ce qui est très très appréciable dans un style qui selon mes goûts personnels tournent souvent un peu trop en rond.

\nLe chant en italien ravira tous les fanas de la scène (des scènes ?) italienne des 60’s, et des diverses périodes du revivalisme depuis les années 80…
