The Carnival Of Fools – Towards The Lighted Town

“Towards The Lighted Town” was the final creation of the Milanese band led by “Joe” Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, originally released in 1993 on Vox Pop, only in CD format.
More than 20 years later, we are finally proud to present it for the very first time, newly remastered and pressed on vinyl – the format that truly suits it best!

With this third work, Carnival of Fools had reached an impressive artistic maturity. The band was tighter than ever, moving forward with increasingly bold choices on one hand, while refining their songwriting on the other. And with a new awareness, they had found a distinctive, personal style with an unmistakably international flavor (their legendary support slots for Beasts of Bourbon and the Bad Seeds came after Mick Harvey himself heard this very record through Hugo Race).

All of this resonates in every groove, with an emotional intensity that turned the album into a crucial milestone in Italian independent music. Every track lands exactly where it should, and their cover of Nick Drake’s “Fly” feels as though it was written specifically for this record.

The album is considered the band’s peak – end-of-the-millennium swamp blues that still gives chills. Even today, it retains an incredible, unexpected freshness and modern edge.
Sadly, it also represents their swan song: not long after, the group disbanded. Joe went on to found La Crus, while the other musicians gave life to the project Santa Sangre.

The record will be released as a 140gr LP with a full-color inner sleeve and, for the first time ever, complete lyrics included.
