Abstracts - Hey, Let's Go Now CD
(The Abstracts from Long Island, N.Y. are best known for their classic song 'Always Always'. As one of the first US bands to create an American answer to the British Invasion, their songs were already written and a master plan already in the works when the Beatles started their meteoric rise in the US. But like many of the first wave UK beat bands, The Abstracts were together only for a little more than two years and split when rock and roll moved into a direction that wasn't theirs. Though during this short period, with their storming and ingenuous beat, they recruited a huge following and accomplished a great deal. They were one of the first bands to utilize a light show and besides their sole 45, their legacy contains a cache of unreleased period recordings, some of them made for Columbia Records in 1964. Finally, over four decades later, this album collects the bands entire studio material alongside two excellent sounding 1966 live tracks. An in-depth insert with a wealth of never-before-seen-photos traces the history of the band that brought "Abstractmania" to the New York area in the sixties. TRACKS: 01. Always Always (7" Version 1965) 02. Don't Listen To What They Say (Columbia Demo) 03. Gone Away (Columbia Demo) 04. Without Her (Columbia Demo) 05. Suffer (Columbia Demo) 06. Baton Girl (7" A-Side 1965) 07. Always Always (Ultra Sonic Studios Demo 1964 ) 08. Gone Away (Ultra Sonic Studios Demo 1964) 09. Pipeline (Columbia Demo 1964) 10. Your Love (Unreleased Live 1964) 11. London Dri - Western Skies: L.A. Psychedelic 1967-69 CD
(In August 1967 LA-based group The London Dri recorded what would be their only 45-rpm single. 'Life In Your Hand', an original song written by guitarist Bruce Thomas, was backed by 'Dona, Dona', a re-working of a Jewish folk song with a new arrangement by the group. Released on the Yobo label, the two songs represented the entire released output by the combo. For years, if recalled at all, The London Dri would be remembered for that lone single. Between their 1965 formation and their disbandment in 1970, however -and in between hundreds of performances and even a movie appearance- The London Dri recorded several other songs that, had they been released, would certainly have earned the group a more prominent standing today among Hollywood rock groups of the era. One of the most remarkable tracks is 'This Is Life', practically the London Dri's version of the Caretakers Of Deception's legendary garage/psych classic 'X+Y=13'. 'The Other Side Of Soul' and 'Western Skies' are both melodic period westcoast rock pieces with excellent psychedelic guitar playing. 'Hurry', 'Wanting To Know You' and 'Sorry' are all from The Misunderstood school of sound and show some clear shades of UK freakbeat/psych bands such as The Game, Mike Stuart Span or The Attack. The only cover version is a 5-minute+ rendition of Big Brother & The Holding Company's 'Combinations'. London Dri had it all, from garage-rock to classic US psychedelic to UK styled mod/psych. Finally here's the band's entire legacy; 11 killer tracks in the distinctive London Dri style. Included is a detailed 8-page booklet with history by Mike Dugo and pics)

Roosters - All Of Our Days CD
(CD version with a different artwork. The Roosters have been known among fans and followers of the Californian mid-'60s folk rock scene for a long time. Their 'One Of These Days' b/w 'You Gotta Run' 45 has been included on early garage compilations and is a huge favourite among collectors. Less well known is their second and at least as brillant 45 'Rosebush'/'Ain't Gonna Cry Anymore'. Additionally there's a rare 1965 surf/mersey punk single released under the name Five More, an early 1965 acetate put down as The Avengers and most of all, three 1966 stunning unreleased folk/garage janglers recorded at Gold Star Studio. This collection finally puts all these gems in one place and unravels the enigmas behind the band on an LP sized full glossy insert with a detailed history of the band emerging from the memoirs of guitarist and songwriter Timothy Ward and the band's vocalist Ray Mangigian. This is embellished with a load of stunning never-before-seen photos. Finally here's the legacy of an underrated, but excellent band direct from Los Angeles, the mid-sixties epicenter of jangle - The Roosters!)

Penthouse 5 - It's All My Own Bizarre Dream LP + 7"
(Hailing from the Dallas suburb Oak Cliff, The Penthouse 5 had its heyday in 1966-'67, when the band recorded a number of self-penned tunes and released two 45s. Several recordings from 1967 and other, more psychedelic influenced tracks remained unreleased, but demonstrate the musical versatility of the band. In 1966 the group underwent a substantial line-up change when three of the original band members, among them vocalist Rob Graham, left the group. He was replaced by Jon Williams, who had previously been with the By Fives and WordD. Alongside the Penthouse 5 recordings, the rare 7-inches of these closely linked bands are all collected for this release. Additionally an until now completely unknown 5-track '65 acetate rounds up this collection of rare and lost recordings by one of the greatest local '60s bands from the Lone Star State)

I Fenomeni - Un Vuoto Appeso LP
(Here we go and check some rather fresh band : I FENOMENI, formed in 2010 in Italy with the intention to create the dirtiest and most fuzzed out garage beat ever. Dirty guitar sounds and cheesy Farfisa organ lines on a solid and straightly pushing rhythmical substraction with some melodic vocals sung in Italian language are the ingredients of a joy – and colorful record that feels like a lost gem from not later than 1967. Nobody could tell this was first released in 2013 and reissued right now. Sound, interplay, melodies and spirit speak of smoky clubs with swirls of colors ornamenting the walls and acid drenched drinks being served by topless waitresses in short skirts. You find yourself back in the mid sixties when it all began and the music here brings to mind tons of popular acts from that era. Starting with the early BYRDS, moving along to the US underground heroes such as THE SEEDS, THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK, THE THIRD BARDO or the later ANIMALS and psyched out JEFFERSON AIRPLANE stuff. If you look for innovations, please stop reading and grab some modern progressive rock for your own joy but if you want to be swallowed into a tunnel of sounds and colors where you can trip easy and free, this is yours. Despite the rather short length of these acid garage beat tunes you will leave what people call reality for a while. Everything here just grabs my soul and melts it away. Memorable melodies, moody riffs and those simmering fuzzed out lead guitars get me lose my senses. This is definitely addictive stuff. If you are a fan of current acid rock like BABY WOODROSE you will not only dig but definitely worship I FENOMENI. The language is rather not important in this context as the voice alone is commanding and you understand the message without understanding the language. Beautiful and haunting. A must have for all psyche and garage freaks)

Art Boulevard - 1987>1985 A Story Backwards CD digipack
(Art Boulevard, born in 1985 in Bergamo (northern Italy), immediately stood out from the pack for their aesthetic and existential attraction to post-punk combined with a musical vision that was straight out of the late sixties: "rock as art" and not merely as an urgent expression of adolescent rebellion. This CD is a complete retrospective of all their songs, including their 'The Favorite Toy' EP (which got rave reviews at the time, but like the great majority of Italian releases, disappeared into obscurity), their two cassettes and their songs from the 'Arezzo Wave' and 'Pluto' compilations. AA VV - She's A Heartbreaker - 20 Blue Eyed Soul Stings UK Floor Fillers - Vol. 4 CD
(The British truly love soul music, and though they may be better at importing rare records (and performers) than actually getting on the good foot themselves, that's not to say there haven't been plenty of real gems cut by U.K. R&B mavens, and Nick Saloman's fourth CD collection of rare blue-eyed soul singles from Old Blighty delivers some solid grooves and passionate vocal turns. Dave Hunter's cover of "Heartbreaker" (a hit for Gene Pitney which was co-written by Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams) gives the fine original a run for its money, Una Valli's swinging take on "Satisfaction" reveals that there was some potent R&B being produced in apartheid-era South Africa, expatriate soul diva Madeline Bell lends her vocal talents to "Can't Get It into My Head" by the Underground, Johnny Curtis manages to make the fairy tale lyrics of "Jack and the Beanstalk" sound tough and soulful despite themselves, and Tina Harvey's "Nowhere to Run" puts an effective new spin on Holland-Dozier-Holland's Motown classic. Kenny Bernard may have been setting himself up for cruel jokes with a song titled "Ain't No Soul," but the tune is a powerful Northern Soul groover with a spirited production, and Irish vocalist Margo manages a similar feat with "The Spark That Lights the Flame." And both Currant Kraze and Slam Creepers have the good sense to make music that's far less laughable than their names. She's a Heartbreaker is a better than average sampling of U.K. R&B and fans of the soulful side of British Beat would do well to give it a spin)

AA VV - Sensacional Soul DCd digipack
(37 groovie spanish soul & funk stompers from the 60s and 70s. Fuel for igniting dance floors and parties: thats what Spanish Soul was during the second half of the sixties. It was an eruption that filled the locals of major cities and touristy spots with sweat, dance, diversion and recognition. Soul didnt explode in Spain until after 1965 (the first hit was The Four Tops, "Reach Out I'll Be There"). Soul was approachable and had playful-vindicating references (messages in favor of civil rights didnt fall on deaf ears in a country subjected to the Francoist Dictatorship) which made it an ideal style for all young audiences. But once they were adopted by Soul, other problems arose. The brass section is one example: it wasnt easy finding musicians who knew how to play the trumpet, saxophone or the trombone. Despite this fact, the tourist phenomenon contributed to a great number of foreign musicians establishing themselves in Spain, enriching the sound of many groups dedicated to Black music. With all these ingredients Soul in Spain was possible -and with good groups too. Hundreds of bands from all over the country added to the new music paradigm and many managed to record. Some became success stories of Spanish Pop, others were known in smaller realms and disappeared into obscurity. For that reason Vampisoul is pleased to offer a selection of the best of Spanish Soul and Funk from the 60s and early 70s: music to dance to, from Benidorm to Tokyo... and back!)

Bom-Prò - Autobus n.7 Cd digipack
(New album for this band really good to mix at his best Punk Rock tradition influenced by Ramones with a melodic HC-Punk in Bad Religion vein. Born in the late 90s they sing in Italian an their lyrics are funny, but overall they made really catchy songs! Nice artwork too)

Nomadds - Nomadds Lp
(This is one of the real rare 60s albums, marked with four stars in Pokoras 1001 Rare Record Cover Book and gets mentioned in Ugly Things '20 Little-Known Albums That Need To Be Reissued Section'. Recorded in 1965 on the peak of the British Invasion, this LP is a true example of US Teensound Excellent Mersey Type group. These Sharp Kids looked to Merseybeat rather than Mick Jagger for inspiration Excellent lead vocals, plaintive three-part harmonies and stripped down, slightly reverbed instrumentation Amazing in its Beatle-like classiness and talent. Mid-Sixties garage beat album. Very UK Beat influenced with a big flavour of Everly Brothers. Nice clean harmonies and guitar picking. Beautiful masterpiece by these lads from Freeport, Illinois USA, originaly released in April 1965. 180 grams virgin vinyl. Beautiful mix of covers and originals. First repress ever. Housed in nice gatefold picture sleeve!)
