REVIEW

Schwindy's indie music 31/01/2015

One of the great things about writing about music is when you write about a band once and then that band contacts you when it has a new album. Enter The Kaams , an Italian garage-rock band (previously reviewed by your humble narrator) who has a new album called One to Six . The Kaams, courtesy of Andrea Carminati. The album begins with the song "With Another Man". This is a groovy garage-rock song that is driven by the drummer pounding out the beat on kit. Not that the beat is the only thing you'll notice. The guitar and the organ also play a big part in getting you grooving. It's a song that hits hard and is over before you know it.
The Kaams show pretty good range on this album. Mostly it's pure garage rock . However, the band incorporates some psychedelia in "Don't Tell Me No Lies". Then there are "Can't Get over You" and "Rainy Day". Both of these are songs that are equal parts garage rock and soul. "Rainy Day" in particular is reminiscent of Jarvis Humby . The band even leans a little toward the blues with "Night Time".
If you like the traditional (if you want to call it that) fuzzy garage-rock sound, then "Chocolate Band" is a song you'll love. The fuzzy guitar is accented nicely by the bright organ sound. This is hard-hitting garage rock at its finest even though it does slow down a bit with the instrumental break.
There is no real mystery with this album - and that's fine. This is garage rock in which the songs are short and played with a lot of volume and energy. If you're a fan of garage rock, One to Six is an album you should add to your collection.

Fuck The Glory Days 05/03/2015

The Kaams are four guys coming from Bergamo, who hit the non-aligned rock'n'roll underground scenes for years, developing a great sound's mixture suspended between nostalgia and a rough freshness. "One To Six" is their second Lp, released by Boss Hoss Records, Area Pirata, Bedo Records and what immediately strikes the listener is the maturity of the production. The guys gave their best along the twelve tracks and we can feel it. They play an exciting, spontaneous rock'n'roll music which sounds like a memory of some typical 60s themes. It's characterized by c&w, rhythm 'n' blues tones, garage-beat assaults (The Sonics's spirit is alive!), punk stabs and love for the black music. If you're feeling quite nostalgic and you're searching for the real rock 'n' roll experience, we advise you not to miss this album.
